Investigation #2- Build a Thermometer

These are directions on how to make a straw-thermometer- First, you put a small straw threw a rubber cork. Next, you pour colored water{green water} into a glass bottle. Then, you put the rubber cork on the glass bottle. Finally, you watch the water go up the straw.








What happened when you put the bottle-and-straw setup in a cup of ice cold water ?
































The answer is: The green water went lower than the black line.
What happened when you put the bottle-and-straw setup in a cup of hot water?
The answer is :It rose higher than the cold water.
What could you do to make the straw thermometer more useful ?
the answer is: put it on a string and see how hot or cold your house is.
